Summer Travel Steals

My family and I had planned a road-trip to Whistler, BC.  Imagine our surprise when a freak accident resulted in a bridge collapse that would ultimately prevent us from taking this much-anticipated trip!

So we had to start our planning from scratch, and it was then that I stumbled upon some super summer deals for families that I wanted to share with you!

For example, if you are a AAA member, you can score a 20% discount, free daily breakfast or $100 resort credit at StarwoodHotels.com (with brands including St. Regis, Westin and Sheraton).  Some of these hotels are well-equipped for family relaxation, including pools, waterslides, lazy rivers, and even camps!  Such a great way to relax with the entire family.

Ultimately, my sun-loving family ended up opting for a trip to the beautiful Scottsdale, AZ.  (Yeah, we are nuts that way… we love the desert any time of year).  The resorts there are amazing, and the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale is offering free nights with their “Sunshine On Sale” discount.  We love this hotel, especially now with the addition of the newly renovated waterslide that is thrillingly fast.

It has been a long time in coming, but the new waterslide at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Gainey Ranch is now open for family fun. I LOVE travelling with my children, but if I intend to get any rest and relaxation, it means they have to be entertained! The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale is superb in this regard, and I plan to write an entire review of the property soon… In the meanwhile, check out these photos of their recently renovated waterslide, and tell me if kids won’t go “gaga” over the update? Power Outage Prep

I grew up in the ‘burbs of NYC, and in the whole of my 18 years there the number of hours we were without power could be counted on my fingers.

In areas less developed, or with more challenging terrain, Moms need to be prepared for a long-term power outage!  The good news is, with just a little planning and a small budget, you can dramatically improve your family’s comfort and safety during a nasty storm. [Read more…]

Sharing vs. Taking Turns

Should Moms teach kids to share or take turns?

Knowing I am from New Jersey may help you appreciate that I speak my mind, and I’ll lay it on the line. “Sharing” is simply the most abused term in parenting today. [Read more…]

Mom Boobs: Things No One Ever Tells An Expectant Mom

So I’m going to be honest–nursing is the doorway for Mother Nature to play some fun games with your boobs!  Let me state for the record, that nursing is absolutely, positively worth it… regardless of any cosmetics effects on your appearance.  The baby comes first!  But in my experience, women with small boobs who hoped they would get bigger permanently after nursing sadly returned down to their small size, only saggier and more deflated looking.  And we women who were well-endowed to begin with, and hoping for smaller breasts after nursing?  We all ended up LARGER!  Consider it the ultimate post-nursing paradox, and the final joke Mother Nature will play on Moms everywhere.
